Like many Christian churches that baptize infants, the Lutheran church has a rite of “confirmation.” This rite provides a mechanism for children and adults to be received and welcomed as full members of the congregation. Confirmation involves a public affirmation of Christian faith, which means that confirmands commit to training and self-examination. Lutheran churches have always held confirmation and associated instruction to be an important life passage. At Holy Trinity, confirmation classes are taught by the Pastor and congregational members. The rite of confirmation then occurs during a special worship service when a student is nearing the end of instruction.
